Knowing the rules before you visit helps everyone have a better experience. While specific regulations vary by state and park, these general guidelines apply virtually everywhere.

General Rules

Quiet Hours: Most parks enforce quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM. Keep noise levels respectful at all times – voices carry far in the outdoors.

Campfire Safety: Use designated fire rings only. Never leave a fire unattended. Check fire restrictions before your visit – burn bans are common during dry seasons.

Pets: Most parks require dogs on leashes no longer than 6 feet. Always clean up after your pet. Some trails and beaches may be off-limits to pets entirely.

Trail Etiquette

Uphill hikers have the right of way. Yield to horses and mountain bikers (where permitted). Stay on marked trails to prevent erosion and protect vegetation. Pack out everything you bring in.

Camping Etiquette

Respect your neighbors’ space. Don’t cut through occupied campsites. Store food properly to avoid attracting wildlife. Leave your site cleaner than you found it – the next family will thank you.
