Spread across 1,872-acres, Fort Cobb State Park is situated in Caddo County, Oklahoma, just South of State Route 52. It is close to the city of Fort Cobb.

Golf at Fort Cobb State Park
There aren’t that many state parks in Oklahoma, or for that matter in the USA that have a golf course. But luckily Fort Cobb State Park is one of them. Renowned for its incredible bent grass greens, lush Bermuda grass fairways and tees and strategically placed, well groomed sand-bunkers, the 18 hole, par 70 course is a picturesque venue to enjoy a round. The front nine is wide open, whilst the back nine will challenge all standards of golfers. With many holes showcasing wonderful views of the lake. As well as the course, there is also a driving range, putting green, cart rentals and a golf pro shop too.
Boating at Fort Cobb State Park
As the lake is large enough to easily accommodate a wide range of vessels, boating is a very popular activity at Fort Cobb State Park. At any given time you’ll see people on everything from a pontoon boat and jet skis to SUP and kayaks, all having a whale of a time.
Swimming at Fort Cobb State Park
As the park features a number of coves, there are plenty of swimming areas located around it. Swimming in the lake is a wonderful way to cool off during the hottest parts of the day in summer. However, it is important to note that swimming is not permitted near the marina, and in certain other areas in the park, where signs are posted.
Hiking at Fort Cobb State Park
Although the park does not have any designated hiking trails, it does possess over 40 miles of shoreline which you can explore on foot. There are also plenty of woodland areas you can ramble about as well.
Fishing at Fort Cobb State Park
If you are into fishing you’ll be pleased to discover that the Fort Cobb Lake has an abundance of fish in it! Spread across its many miles of shoreline and wide surface, are several opportunities to cast a line into the lake from a kayak, boat or its banks. Expect to catch the likes of catfish, walleye, bass, crappie, saugeye, largemouth, white bass and bluegill – particularly if you use a spinner-style lure or live bait!
Picnicking at Fort Cobb State Park
Throughout the park there are several picnic areas and shelters in very scenic spots. These are all conveniently scattered throughout it, with many of them being located near the lake. So, if all goes well, you can cook what you catch for dinner.
Hunting at Fort Cobb State Park
Within Fort Cobb State Park is a public hunting area that resides at the northwestern portion of the lake. It comprises about 3,500 acres of abandoned fields and rangeland, that feature blackjack thickets that are very overgrown. Specific game species you may be able to snare include dove, turkey, quail, deer, rabbit and squirrel.
Camping at Fort Cobb State Park
As mentioned in the intro, there are over 500 campsites at Fort Cobb State Park. These are located within seven different campgrounds, two of which are primitive tent sites. All up 290 of these campsites provide either full or partial hookups for RVs. You can find these sites at the Blackjack Cove, Catfish Cove, Deer Run Cove, Eagle’s Nest Cove, and Sunset Cove campgrounds. All of the campgrounds are nestled on the shore of the lake. Many of them can be reserved online or by calling the park’s office.
Amenities at Fort Cobb State Park
Unlike in other state parks in Oklahoma, Fort Cobb has everything you need on site. This includes a gas station, where you can get fuel for your RV or boat, and a convenience store that sells a range of camping related supplies. There is also a gift shop here too, as well as plenty of restrooms, showers, playgrounds, and a dump station. The park also accommodates a community building and enclosed shelter, which is a great venue for functions, get-togethers and more intimate weddings.

Worth watching for: Fort Cobb Lake draws notable birdlife: the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports bald eagles in winter on the state park portion of the lake, large numbers of pelicans using the whole lake, and ducks and geese present in good numbers through the colder months. White-tailed deer live throughout the surrounding area, and the lake itself holds crappie, catfish, walleye, saugeye, largemouth and white bass.
