Lake Lowndes State Park wraps around a 150-acre lake in Lowndes County, about eight miles southeast of Columbus, Mississippi. What sets it apart from most state parks in the region is how much of it is built for organized play: alongside the fishing and camping there are three baseball and softball diamonds, two t-ball fields and tennis courts.

Location & Getting There
From Highway 82 take the East Columbus exit at Highway 50/12, follow Gardner Boulevard to Highway 69 South, then turn onto Lake Lowndes Road. Coordinates are 33.4347, -88.3028. Mississippi University for Women and Mississippi State University are both a short drive west, which makes the campground a practical base on a football weekend.
Things to Do
The lake is the centre of the park: fishing from the bank and from boats, with day-use and overnight reservations handled through the state system. Camping sits close to the water, and the day-use areas are set up for groups rather than solitude.
The sports facilities are the unusual part. Three baseball and softball fields, two t-ball fields, tennis courts and space for other organized sports mean the park fills with tournaments on some weekends — worth checking before you plan a quiet trip.
