Lake Waccamaw SP — 1,732 acres on Lake Waccamaw — the largest natural lake in North Carolina (8,938 acres) and a Carolina bay. The lake’s unique limestone neutralization creates unusually clear water that supports endemic species found nowhere else on earth — including the Waccamaw silverside, Waccamaw killifish, and Waccamaw spike mussel. Alligators inhabit the lake.
