Camping reservations through the Maine DACF reservation system. Peak season at coastal parks like Reid and Popham is very short — July and August fill quickly. Bring layers even in summer, as coastal temperatures drop quickly with sea breezes. Ticks carrying Lyme disease are a serious concern throughout Maine.

Mackworth Island SP — a 100-acre island connected by causeway to Falmouth. The island’s spruce-fir forest, rocky shore, and tidal flats support great blue herons, ospreys, and harbor seals. A fairy house village (whimsical woodland structures built by visitors) is a beloved attraction. The island was the former estate of Governor Percival Baxter (who donated Baxter State Park).
