FAQ

When do rhododendrons bloom?

Mid-June is peak bloom for the Catawba rhododendrons. The 79th annual Rhododendron Festival is June 20–21, 2026. Note: the Roan Mountain Recreation Area is closed for repairs.

Can I hike the AT from here?

Yes! Carver’s Gap is about 8 miles from the park and remains open. Parking may be limited. The Roan Highlands section is spectacular!

Is camping available?

Cabins: Yes, year-round. Upper Campground is closed due to Hurricane Helene damage (bridge replacement underway). Camp store reopens April 15, 2026.
