Three Rivers State Park

As it is fed by the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers, it is not hard to see how the Three Rivers State Park gets its name. All running to the beautiful Lake Seminole, which is its centerpiece, the park affords plenty of opportunities for boating and fishing enthusiasts to enjoy the water. Away from it, hikers and bikers can explore the 686-acre Florida state park via seven miles of trails that meander deep into its landscape. Beautiful sunsets and picnics can be enjoyed on the lake’s shoreline too, while the park’s diverse flora and fauna are excellent spots for nature and wildlife watching. Situated less than an hour’s drive to Tallahassee, Three Rivers State Park is a popular day trip destination for folk who want to escape the breakneck pace of city life. Should anyone want to stay over for a couple of nights or more, they can do so at the lovely onsite campground. Accommodation there includes a cabin and 30 RV campsites that come with connections for electricity and water.

Visitors to this state park can enjoy its serene surroundings in a variety of ways. Here is a brief overview of what recreational activities you can partake in while you are there.

Boating at Three Rivers State Park

The sparkling waters of Lake Seminole provide more than 37,000 acres of surface water for you to enjoy a range of water related activities. This includes the likes of kayaking, paddling, SUP or boating. Within the park there are two boat launches, although one of them is exclusive to campground guests. These are more suitable for smaller vessels, so if you have a bigger boat you should make your way over to either of the two public launching areas which you will find in the east and west of the park. If you did not bring a watercraft with you, they can be hired out at the park.

Fishing at Three Rivers State Park

On the angling circuit, the park is renowned for being a great place to fish. People from all over Florida and the surrounding states come here for the chance to cast a line into its virulent waters. Depending on how you fish, you may need a license. However you can choose to do so by the shore, on one of three piers or on a boat in the middle of the lake. The likes of smallmouth and largemouth bass are regularly caught here, as are bluegill and catfish. Speckled perch and bream often bite too.

Trails at Three Rivers State Park

If you would prefer to explore the park on foot there are more than five miles of hiking trails available. Overall there are four different self-guided trails you can tackle, which conveniently can be accessed from the day use area and the campground. All of these are relatively easy to complete. They also provide exceptional views of Lake Seminole from rolling hills that you traverse.

Biking at Three Rivers State Park

If biking is more your thing, there are seven miles of biking trails laid out in the park. Suitable for all levels of skill, the elevation changes are quite moderate overall. These trails take you through scenic parts of the park. As the trail can be a little bumpy it is recommended you wear helmets just to be on the safer side.

Nature & Wildlife

Due to its various ecosystems and special climate the park is an excellent destination to engage in birding and wildlife watching. A combination of the freshwater lake and cool temperatures enable a host of animal species to survive. Keep an eye out for white tailed deer, fox squirrels, snakes and gray foxes, particularly when attempting the trails. As the park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail you can expect to spot several species of native and migratory birds during your time there. Pets at Three Rivers State Park

The park considers itself to be pet-friendly, however certain conditions relating to the presence of dogs do apply. Unless they are in a designated off-leash area, they must remain leashed at all times on a non-retractable lead that is no less than six feet in length. Dogs also must be cleaned up after and cannot be left unattended for more than 30 minutes.

Camping at Three Rivers State Park

If you need overnight accommodation when visiting Three Rivers State Park you will be pleased to know there is a very good campground there which you can stay at. Situated at the park’s northern end, it presents 30 sites that offer spectacular views of the lake. The RV sites are able to fit rigs of up to 50 feet and come with hookups for water and electricity. They also have their own individual picnic tables and fire rings, while amenities like flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station are also located onsite. To compliment these RV sites, the park also offers a lovely cabin for overnight guests who want something a bit more upscale. Nestled on the lake’s shore, just to the north of the campground, it features one bedroom and bathroom. It also has heating and air conditioning, as well as electricity, indoor plumbing and a kitchen with appliances. In addition to these options, a primitive group campsite is available on the park’s southern side. Located close to the day-use area, it has restrooms with showers, a large grill and picnic tables for guests to use.
