Davis Mountains SP — 2,709 acres in the Davis Mountains — the most extensive mountain range entirely within Texas. The park’s sky island habitat, desert grassland, and canyons support Montezuma quails, black bears, and mountain lions. The dark skies are among the clearest in North America.

What is Indian Lodge?

A 1930s CCC-built pueblo-style hotel right inside the park! Features adobe architecture, a restaurant, and a mountain-view pool. One of Texas’s most unique lodges.

How do I visit McDonald Observatory?

McDonald Observatory is nearby and hosts star parties on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Reservations recommended—they sell out frequently!

Can I have a campfire?

No wood fires allowed due to ongoing burn ban. You can use charcoal grills and containerized fuel (propane stoves) instead.

Entrance fees $1-$7 per person. Texas State Parks Pass ($70/year) is one of the best deals. Popular Hill Country parks frequently reach capacity on weekends. Carry 1 gallon water per person per day in desert parks.
