Elk Knob SP — 5,858 acres — protects one of the highest peaks in the Amphibolite Mountains (5,520 ft). The park’s high-elevation forest, rocky outcrops, and mountain meadows support northern flying squirrels (a Southern Appalachian endemic), black bears, and wild turkeys. Rare wildflowers bloom in the amphibolite soil.
