Maumee Bay State Park has so much to offer its visitors! Planning to spend a few nights? Check out the park’s campground, cabins or stay in the resort lodge. The Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center features a full-service dining room, lounge, snack bar, a kids’ splash area, conference rooms and much more. This serene Ohio state park also features a Nature Center, butterfly gazebo, boardwalk, lakes, trails, a special Storybook Trail, and picnic areas complete with tables and grills near the beach area. There are winter activities too – ice skating, cross country skiing, sledding, and nature hikes – for those visiting during the off-season. Boating at Maumee Bay State Park

Bring your own kayak, canoe or other non-motorized boat (or rent inside the park) and enjoy a peaceful day on the park’s 57 acre inland lake. For all other boats, including motorized, a dock is available inside the park and on Lake Erie. Overnight slips with water and electric are also available.

Swimming at Maumee Bay State Park

Maumee Bay State Park has 2 sandy beach areas where guests can swim, sunbathe and relax. Swimming is allowed in designated areas only along the Lake Erie shoreline and the park’s inland lake. Hiking at Maumee Bay State Park

Hike, bike, or cross country ski along the park’s trails that extend through marshland, swamps, meadows, oaks and maple trees and past ponds and beach areas. Here are a couple of the trails at Maumee Bay State Park:

  • Boardwalk Trail – This 2 mile interpretive loop winds through the coastal wetlands providing guests with a closer look at the park’s natural flora and fauna. This trail is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
  • Storybook Trail – An easy 0.3 mile trail that showcases a children’s story broken up into segments along a short grassy pathway. The story is changed throughout the year. Bring a book to exchange in the small ‘Free Library’ that is located near the beginning of the trail.

An archery range is available for guests who bring their own equipment. This range includes 7 lanes and a combination of 3D and static targets.

Fishing at Maumee Bay State Park

Maumee Bay State Park features a few ideal fishing spots where guests may catch channel catfish, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, freshwater drum, and walleye. You may fish from boat, shore or along one of the accessible fishing piers. Be sure to pick up an Ohio fishing license ahead of time.

Birding at Maumee Bay State Park

Don’t forget your binoculars! More than 300 species of birds have been sighted at Maumee Bay State Park. Here are some you may be able to check off your bird list: Great Blue Heron, Canadian Geese, Redheads, Ring-billed Gulls, Yellow Warbler, Swamp Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, and Hairy Woodpeckers. Nature and Wildlife at Maumee Bay State Park

Majestic Lake Erie once stretched from western New York to Fort Wayne in Indiana. Today this area of wetlands is home to many species. Look for White-tailed Deer, raccoons, frogs, snakes, salamanders, butterflies, dragonflies, birds and more during your visit here. Marsh plants such as buttonbush, cattails, cottonwood, black willow, bur-reed, and phragmites also thrive here.

Pets are allowed within designated areas at Maumee Bay State Park. Please supervise your pets and protect them by keeping them on a hand held leash no longer than 6 feet.

Camping at Maumee Bay State Park

Planning to visit the area for a few days? Why not spend a few nights inside beautiful Maumee Bay State Park? The park’s overnight accommodations include campsites, cabins, marina boat slips and guest rooms at the Maumee Bay Lodge. The Maumee Bay Lodge features 120 guest rooms, a full-service dining room, cocktail lounge, snack bar, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a hot tub, sauna, WiFi, fitness center, and much more. Each of their guest rooms has a private balcony that overlooks picturesque Maumee Bay. Each cabin has 2 or 4 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a living room area. A gas fireplace, heat, and air conditioning are also included. Cabin guests may use lodge facilities; pets allowed in some cabins. The campground features spacious full hookup sites and electric sites. Campers also have access to hot showers, flush toilets, trails to day use areas, bike rentals, a playground, basketball court, and horseshoe pits. Games and sports equipment may be borrowed at the camp office; pets allowed at designated campsites.

Maumee Bay is the closest thing to a full-service wedding venue in the state park system. The Maumee Bay Lodge handles everything — catering, coordination, setup, and an on-site pastry chef — so you get the lakefront setting without the DIY logistics.

The Lodge provides over 7,000 sq ft of event space across eight function rooms, with a professional team handling menu planning, flowers, and a pastry chef for the wedding cake.
