Sanilac Petroglyphs HSP — in Sanilac County — preserves Native American rock carvings (petroglyphs) dating back 300-1,000 years. The carvings — on a sandstone outcrop exposed by an 1881 forest fire — depict a hunter, archer, and various animals. The surrounding second-growth forest supports white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and porcupines. Barred owls call at dusk.
