Wildlife Prairie Park — 1,800 acres of forest and prairie near Hanna City — is a unique zoological park dedicated exclusively to animals native to Illinois. The park houses 150+ animals representing 60+ species in naturalistic habitats, including American bison, gray wolves, black bears, elk, cougars, and river otters — species that once roamed Illinois but were extirpated by habitat loss and hunting. Visitors walk through forested trails past large enclosures where these animals live in semi-wild conditions. The park’s 1,800 acres of surrounding forest and prairie also support wild populations of white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and coyotes. Prairie wildflowers bloom from April through October. The park offers unique lodging in converted train cabooses and log cabins.
