Wildlife & Nature

Bullards Beach encompasses over 1,200 acres of coastal habitat — dunes, beach, estuary, and coastal forest — creating one of the most ecologically diverse state parks on the southern Oregon coast. The Coquille River Lighthouse (1896) anchors the park’s northern end. The Coquille estuary supports runs of coho salmon (ESA-threatened), Chinook salmon, and steelhead. The park’s shore pine forest provides habitat for varied thrushes — whose single, haunting whistle note is the quintessential sound of the Pacific Northwest fog forest. Western snowy plovers nest on the undeveloped beach sections. Harbor seals haul out on the river’s sandbanks. The park’s equestrian trails allow horseback beach riding — an iconic Oregon coast experience.

Nearby Attractions

Bandon is one of Oregon’s most charming coastal towns — Face Rock Beach showcases dramatic sea stacks, and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is ranked among the world’s top golf destinations. Cranberry bogs surround Bandon — Oregon produces 6% of the US cranberry crop. West Coast Game Park Safari offers animal encounters. Shore Acres State Park features stunning botanical gardens perched on ocean cliffs. Cape Blanco — the westernmost point in Oregon — has a lighthouse dating to 1870.
