Wildlife & Nature
Bandon State Natural Area protects one of Oregon’s most spectacular coastal landscapes — dramatic sea stacks, wide sandy beaches, and rich tidepool habitats. The Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge adjacent to the area provides critical habitat for shorebird migration — over 100,000 shorebirds pass through during peak migration. Western snowy plovers — federally threatened — nest on Bandon’s beaches from March through September, with sections roped off to protect their camouflaged nests. Tufted puffins — with their distinctive orange beaks and golden head tufts — nest on offshore rocks. The area’s sea stacks are remnants of ancient headlands eroded by relentless Pacific waves — geological time made visible.
