Eagle Creek State Park occupies a wooded peninsula on Lake Shelbyville in Shelby County, Illinois, just outside Findlay in the east-central part of the state. It faces the Wolf Creek site across the middle of the reservoir — together the two Shelby County sites take in 11,100 acres of water and 250 miles of shoreline.

Location & Getting There
The park is minutes from Findlay and within easy reach of Springfield, Decatur, Champaign and Effingham. Coordinates are 39.5002, -88.7112.
Things to Do
The reservoir carries most of the activity: fishing, pontoon boating, water skiing and windsurfing on open water, with long stretches of shoreline to work along. On land there is camping, hiking and horseback riding, plus a golf course, a bow range and a playground.
Winter changes the park rather than closing it — snowmobiling and cross-country skiing take over the trails once there is cover.
Wildlife & Nature
Large tracts of maintained indigenous woodland run down to the water, which is what gives the peninsula its character: hardwood cover on one side, 250 miles of shoreline edge on the other. That edge is where the wildlife concentrates, and where the walking is best in the hour before dusk.
