James “Pate” Philip Tri-County State Park spans 900 acres across DuPage, Kane, and Cook Counties in the western Chicago suburbs โ one of the newest state parks in Illinois. Named after state Senate President James “Pate” Philip (1930โ2014), the park combines restored tallgrass prairie, oak woodland, and reservoirs on land that was formerly farmland. The park demonstrates Illinois’s commitment to preserving open space in the rapidly developing suburban corridor west of Chicago.
