Kenlake sits on Kentucky Lake, the largest reservoir in the eastern United States — 160,300 acres and 2,064 miles of shoreline behind the TVA’s Kentucky Dam, finished in 1944 — and the park’s marina is built to match: 16 open and 169 covered slips, 890 feet of transient dock for boats up to 100 feet, fuel, a ramp, a marina restaurant, and pontoon and jet-ski rentals. The lake gives up largemouth, smallmouth, white and Kentucky bass, bluegill, channel and blue catfish, crappie and sauger; the lodge desk lends fishing gear for free (you still need a Kentucky license).
What Kenlake does not have is water you can swim in: the park is explicit that there is no swimming area or beach on the lake — the pool behind the lodge is for lodge and cottage guests, in season. The land-side oddity is an indoor tennis center with four courts (open November 1 to April 1, plus four lighted outdoor courts), which doubles as a 20,000-square-foot event hall. Four trails cover the grounds: the paved 2-mile Eggner’s Ferry Bridge Trail links the park to the Land Between the Lakes trail network across the bridge, while the Cherokee (0.5 miles), Chickasaw (1.2 miles) and the strenuous 2-mile Coach Lester G. Mimms Trail thread the woods between the historic Cherokee State Park site and the campground. Land Between the Lakes itself — 170,000 acres run by the U.S. Forest Service — is minutes away but a separate operation.
Best Time to Visit
Camping runs from mid-March to mid-November with peak pricing in October and from mid-May through Labor Day; the marina and rentals make summer the boating season, and fall brings the campground’s busiest month. Winter is the tennis center’s season and the cottages’ quiet one — the 34 cottages stay open year-round, and the lodge’s Aurora Landing Restaurant serves breakfast daily and lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday.

Kentucky State Parks charge no admission. On prices: the 48-room lodge and the 34 cottages (one to three bedrooms) are priced dynamically — you’ll only see rates in the reservation system — but campsite rates are fixed and published: standard sites $25 Sunday–Thursday, $27 Friday–Saturday and $30 on holidays; preferred sites $35/$38/$40; tent sites with water $18/$20/$22, plus a $6 booking fee and taxes — as of September 2026, for the 63-site campground with full-service and electric sites, showers and a fish-cleaning station, bookable 12 months ahead at kentuckystateparks.reserveamerica.com. Pets are welcome in designated rooms and cottages for $50 plus tax (two maximum); guests 62 and older get 10 percent off lodging and camping, and you must be 21 to reserve.
The park is at 542 Kenlake Road, Hardin, at the junction of US 68 and US 80 in Aurora — 40 miles southeast of Paducah. The other two resort parks on these lakes, Lake Barkley (about 14 miles) and Kentucky Dam Village (about 18 miles), are close enough to combine.
