🐻 Wildlife at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park: What to Watch For — and Watch Out For
Worth watching for: The Big Sur River is the park's wildlife corridor: walk the River Path or Warden's Path and watch for belted kingfishers and dippers working the water, and leave rocks and branches where they are - the park asks you to protect the fish nests of the endangered steelhead that spawn there. In the redwoods and along the trails you may see black-tail deer, gray squirrels, bobcats, ringtails, gray foxes, raccoons and skunks, with Steller's jays, Cooper's hawks, spotted owls and purple martins overhead. California State Parks lists California condors and steelhead among the park's endangered or threatened animals.
