Surrounded by the rustic beauty of northeast Ohio, Lake Milton State Park attracts day visitors with its lakeside activities, nature trails, and picnic areas. This picturesque public recreational area is located in Mahoning County only 34 miles east of Akron.
During the early 1900s Lake Milton was a popular hubspot with a small amusement park, boat trips, a dance hall, and even a skating rink. Today visitors to this Ohio state park enjoy the peacefulness inside the park while swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, picnicking, and more.

Visit Lake Milton State Park and spend a fun-filled day enjoying nature! This day use park provides guests with many options for a relaxing (or exhilarating) day outside: picturesque picnic areas, trails, and boating, swimming, and fishing on the large lake.
During the winter guests may also have the opportunity to cross-country ski, snowmobile, and ice fish.

Boating at Lake Milton State Park
Canoe, kayak, paddle board, sail, and more on the 1,685 acre lake inside Swimming is allowed within designated areas inside Lake Milton State Park. Three boat launch ramps are scattered along the lake and Mahoning River may be accessed along the southside of the lake.

So come prepared (during the warmer seasons) to swim, float, and have fun on the sandy 600-foot beach area along Lake Milton.
Everything you need for a relaxing beach day is located nearby: playground, sand volleyball court, basketball courts, changing rooms, showers, and restrooms.
Hiking at Lake Milton State Park

Here are a couple of the trails at Lake Milton State Park:
- The Storybook Trail – An easy 0.5 mile paved trail that showcases a children’s story broken into segments along its path. The trail begins and ends near the amphitheater along the north end of the beach adjacent to the lake and woods.
- Lake Milton Loop – Easy 7.2 mile trail that circles the lake. Guests should be cautious while hiking this trail as it follows along a roadway and shared with cars and other vehicles.
Biking at Lake Milton State Park

Disc Golf at Lake Milton State Park
An 18-hole Disc Golf Course is available at Lake Milton State Park for guests who bring their own equipment. This course is located within the woods and offers players scenic views of the lake.
Fishing at Lake Milton State Park
Enjoy a leisurely day fishing from your boat or the shoreline inside Lake Milton State Park. Anglers with a valid Ohio fishing license may catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, yellow perch, muskellunge, walleye, and crappie.
Archery at Lake Milton State Park
A year round archery range is available inside Lake Milton State Park for guests who bring their own equipment. The 5 target range is located on the north end of the lake and may be accessed from Northeast River Road.
Birding at Lake Milton State Park
Bird lovers will enjoy seeing Great Blue Herons, Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-winged blackbirds, White-breasted Nuthatches, Barred Owls, Red-shouldered Hawks, and House Finches during their visit.
Nature and Wildlife at Lake Milton State Park
Lake Milton State Park lies within a section of the Appalachian Plateau. This picturesque area is noted for its rolling hills, oak and hickory forests, fields, streams, and lakes. This 1,006 acre park proudly showcases this rustic beauty.
Creatures seen throughout include white-tailed deer, cottontail rabbits, red foxes, raccoons, squirrels, woodchucks, muskrats, birds, snakes, and turtles.

Pets are allowed within designated areas at Lake Milton State Park. Please supervise your pets and keep them on a hand held leash that is no longer than 6 feet.
Camping Near Lake Milton State Park
Have a fun day at Lake Milton State Park, bring a picnic, explore the trails, and spend some time out on the lake. And then head over to nearby West Branch State Park to camp.
West Branch State Park, located at 5570 Esworthy Road in Ravenna, features a large family campground and a separate equestrian campground. All campsites are located near heated showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and a trailer dump station.
The main campground area has 200 sites (a mix of full hook-ups and electric) plus 3 group camping sites and access to a small beach area and boat launch. The separate Equestrian campground has primitive non-electric sites. Pets are allowed on all campsites.
The Camp Store carries supplies, firewood, games and equipment.
