Pettigrew SP — 1,266 acres on Lake Phelps — one of the most pristine natural lakes on the East Coast. 30 dugout canoes — some dating to 2400 BC — were discovered in the lake, the largest collection of prehistoric watercraft in the Southeast. The park’s lake, pocosin, and old-growth cypress support black bears, bald eagles, and tundra swans (winter).
