❓ Fishing in Oregon — FAQ

Do you need a fishing license in Oregon state parks?

Yes. Oregon requires an angling license from age 12, and Oregon State Parks says the same in its park guides, for example Lake Billy Chinook at The Cove Palisades: "An Oregon fishing license is required to fish anywhere on the lake." The lake's Metolius arm also needs a tribal angling permit. An annual license costs $50 for residents and $138 for non-residents. Are there free fishing days in Oregon?

Yes — Feb 14-15, June 6-7 and Nov 27-28, 2026. On free fishing days no license is required; confirm the dates with the official Oregon agency before your trip.
